Michele Chisena Con un nome e un aspetto non proprio latini, Marta Topferova, di origini cecke, ha gettato un ponte ideale tra Praga, Moron de la Frontera (Spagna) e New York. Tre città differenti per tre modi diversi di intendere la musica.

Cantante, ballerina e compositrice, la Topferova costruisce un CD in cui gli aromi del son cubano si mischiano agli arrangiamenti trasognanti, acustici e pastorali tipicamente europei, senza trascurare gli echi jazz della metropoli americana.

E così, tra delicate intessiture a base di tambora, conga, maracas e requinto, si insinua l'eleganza del flicorno, del flauto, del corno francese e del violoncello di Erik Friedlander (dall'iniziale "Te Pido Perdon" a "Obsesionada", "Ecos de Partidas" e "Pulso de Nueva York").

Una voce, lievemente increspata e vissuta, tra lo spleen e la saudade, sorregge le cristalline trame armoniche realizzate con l'aiuto di Enrique Lopez. La malinconica melodia di "Esperanza", il brano più rappresentativo dell'intero disco, rimanda, come in un gioco di specchi, echi di un passato che la forma canzone moderna sembra aver del tutto rimosso.

Un CD di tutto rispetto e un'autrice da seguire con attenzione. Con una faccia un po' così, con un'espressione e un nome un po' così, non è mica poco.

With a name and appearance which are not typically Latin, Marta Topferova, of Czech origin, has built an ideal bridge between Prague, Moron de la Frontera (Spain) and New York. Three different cities with three different ways of understanding music.

A singer, dancer and composer, Topferova has created a CD in which the aromas of Cuban son mix with dreamy, acoustic and typically European pastoral arrangements, without neglecting the echoes of American metropolitan jazz.

And thus, the elegance of the flugelhorn, the flute, the French horn, and the cello of Erik Friedlander insinuates itself within the delicate weavings of the tambora, conga, maracas and requinto (from the first song, "Te Pido Perdon" to "Obsesionada", "Ecos de Partidas" and "Pulso de Nueva York").

A voice which is slightly rough and worn, between spleen and saudade, supports the crystaline harmonic textures created with the help of Enrique Lopez. The melancholy melody of "Esperanza" --the most representative song of the album-- reflects, as in a hall of mirrors, the echoes of a past which the modern song form seems to have completely left behind.

It is a CD that commands respect, and its author is to be followed carefully. With that face, with that expression and that name, it is no small thing.
